A Lotus On Irish Streams

The piece for today was very much driven by my choice of music, Mahavishnu Orchestra’s hauntingly beautiful “A Lotus In Irish Streams”, recorded live at the BBC in 1972. My aim was to reflect the lyrical and pure simplicity of the piece, especially compared to their more frenetic, and perhaps more familiar, style. But just as with the music it is a somewhat deceptive simplicity; the image is actually made up of three separate images blended together. If this isn’t readily apparent then I have gone some way towards achieving my intent.

Above all I wanted to impart to the finished piece a quiet feeling of coolness. Not cool as in, say, Miles Davis you understand though. “Cool” as in, well, an Irish stream…
